ARTIST STATEMENT
In most cases, my work incorporates a great deal of layering as I endeavor to make the chosen media harmonious with the concept. Surface detail and textural appeal are important characteristics in both my 2D and 3D works. No matter what end is envisioned, my artwork undergoes a massive transformation throughout the process.
Conceptually, my selection of media is based upon what is readily available and opens the discourse most clearly. My work explores metamorphosis, emotional connections, paradigms and value systems, and the distortion of objects suspended in space. Many of my pieces feature human hands. Hands are very personal; they can heal, hurt, show ownership, and tell stories without a sound. In this series I use hands as a barge to express my feelings about some things in life within my artwork.
